[SBI] State Bank of India is Deactivating these cards

The State Bank of India [SBI] has issued an advisory to its customers. The largest country’s bank is asking its debit card users to switch to EMV-chip based by December 31, 2019. In case of non-compliance the bank will be deactivating all magnetic stripe cards. Here’s everything you need to know about deactivation of these cards and more information.

State Bank Of India {SBI} will be deactivating the cards even if their validity period remains.This means all SBI Debit Card even the cards whose expiry date is beyond 31 December will be deactivated. State Bank of India is deactivating these cards due to the ‘continuing frauds’ on them. EMV Chip technology is the latest global standard for debit card payments.

Why SBI Banks Block Old Atm?

This technology features debit cards with embedded microprocessor chip that store and protect your Debit Card holder data Safe yourself with guaranteed authenticity greater security for online payments and added security against fraud SBI Said in a tweet on micro-blogging website Twitter.

This means that All SBI debit cards having both magnetic stripe and EMV chip will continue to be valid. Only old mag stripe cards which do not have chip will be deactivated.

To apply online: Login to http://onlinesbi.com under the “eServices” tab. Then click on [ATM Card Services] and follow the instructions given on the page. There are no charges to replace magnetic stripe debit cards with EMV chip and PIN-based cards.

Users can check whether their card has EMV chip or not. There is a Chip located on the face “center left position” of the debit card in EMV chip debit cards. SBI has asked customers to ensure that their current address is updated in account as the card is sent to the registered address only.
