Redmi Note 13 Pro Review: 200MP, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, Check Pros, Cons, Price

Powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, the Redmi Note 13 Pro price in India starts at Rs 25,999. With its 200MP camera and 5,100mAh battery, is it the best midrange all-rounder?

This phone has a 200MP camera, 120Hz AMOLED display, 4-nanometer processor, and a large 5,100 mAh battery. All this for less than ₹26,000.

There is only one brand that can consistently offer such a value proposition, and that is Redmi.

With the new Redmi Note 13 Pro, it is set to shake up India’s crowded mid-range phone segment. But does it deliver?

Redmi Note 13 Pro Design

At first glance, the Redmi Note 13 Pro exudes a sense of sophistication, especially in this Coral Purple colorway. It has subtle hints of purple, pink, blue, and green. Now, this may seem a bit much, but it’s executed very well here.

Unlike many competitors, the back here is made of glass, and although it has a matte finish, it is prone to fingerprints.

The camera island on the Note 13 Pro adopts a new design language compared to its predecessor. It changes from the familiar rectangular shape to a more prominent square module divided into 3 sections.

The lower green section has a unique turbine-shaped flash, but it’s not perfectly focused on this review device, so quality control needs to be improved here.

The frame of the device is subtly tapered around the edges, which helps with grip.

The thin display bezels also help with the premium appeal. The chin is still a little thick, but it’s not noticeable.

Redmi Note 13 Pro display

The display of this device is a gorgeous 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a variable 120Hz refresh rate.

It also has 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and a peak brightness of 1800 nits, making it a high-end display for the price. Its viewing angles are decent, and sunlight legibility is also excellent.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Utility

This is the first Redmi Note smartphone to feature an optical fingerprint scanner, which is much more accurate than the side-mounted scanner on the Note 12 Pro.

The Note 13 Pro has no SD card slot, but you get 128 or 256 GB of internal storage.

It comes with an IR blaster, which can be useful if you like to operate your devices from your smartphone.

Also, entertainment buffs will appreciate the clear and crisp sound produced by the phone’s stereo speakers.

Additionally, I’m glad to see a headphone jack on a new smartphone in 2024. Interestingly, the more expensive Pro+ doesn’t have it, so the brand considers the removal of the headphone jack a premium feature. Strange!

Moving on, the Note 13 Pro can tolerate light splashes of water thanks to its IP54 rating.
The Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the display of this phone adds to its durable nature. This is the most affordable smartphone with Victus security.

Xiaomi also provides a high-quality cover with this phone. It just hides this beautiful color.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Camera

200MP is a very beautiful word! It is proudly printed on the camera island of this smartphone. But, the funny thing is that the camera above this text is a 2MP macro sensor for some reason.

Anyway, the Note 13 Pro has a 200MP primary camera, which is made by Samsung. It’s being joined by two familiar faces from the mid-range scene: an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro.

The high-resolution main camera performs excellently in a variety of lighting conditions and delivers images with good dynamic range. However, the colors may be slightly off. For example, this building was not blue, but teal.

You can also shoot in full 200MP resolution, but dynamic range suffers in this mode.

Low-light photos tend to be noisy and lose detail. However, these photos are good enough to share on social media because of their vibrant colors.

But, I was quite impressed with the 4K 30fps videos as they showed impressive detail and good stabilization.

The ultrawide sensor produces more accurate colors than the main sensor, which is surprisingly impressive, even if its images are softer around the corners.

The macro camera is fine for taking close-ups of flowers outside.

The 16MP selfie camera keeps skin tones fairly natural, although it produces soft photos.

Redmi Note 13 Pro performance and software

The Note 13 Pro is the first smartphone in India to be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor.

It’s an incremental upgrade to the Dimensity 1080 found on the Note 12 Pro. Antu score of 6 lakh is quite good for this segment.

But, now that the Poco X6 Pro is here, good is no longer good enough.

Anyway, this chip can still handle games like Call of Duty at high graphics and 60fps.

Additionally, Snapdragon processors are better optimized for games than Dimensity chips, which may work in this phone’s favor in the long run.

Redmi Note 13 Pro handles everyday tasks with ease. The device runs on MIUI 14 based on Android 13 and comes with three major OS updates and a commitment of four years of security patches.

However, one of those updates will be HyperOS, which should have been standard in the first place.

Also, while MIUI is fast and feature-rich, it comes with a lot of bloatware. And this situation is not changing even with HyperOS as we have seen on the Poco X6 Pro.

Redmi Note 13 Pro battery

The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G’s 5,100mAh battery is slightly larger than its predecessor.

With my mixed usage, which included watching shows, clicking some pictures, and making some phone calls. It provided about 7 and a half hours of screen time.

The 67W fast charging is also very good, allowing for quick top-ups. It takes about 40 minutes to fully charge.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Review

The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G is a solid all-rounder in the mid-range segment. It shines with its impressive performance and good performance.

However, it no longer offers the price-to-performance ratio that the Redmi Note series was once known for. It seems that this responsibility has now been given to the sister brand Poco.

So, the Note 13 Pro is a device that offers a perfect experience. It’s transformed from a budget gamer’s dream phone to a phone that appeals to a wide audience, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

Verdict:

The Redmi Note 13 Pro is a solid mid-range phone with a lot to offer, especially considering its price tag. The beautiful display, improved performance, and fast charging are all positives. However, the camera falls short of flagship quality, and there are some minor software niggles.

Overall, if you’re looking for a value-packed phone with a great display and decent performance, the Redmi Note 13 Pro is worth considering. However, if you prioritize camera quality or a premium build, you might want to look elsewhere.

Pros:
