“The last time I came to Lucknow was a long time back to meet my mom’s friend who stays here. I didn’t see the city much then. But I have heard so much about Lucknow, mostly because of its food. And since I am a complete foodie, I wanted to eat the famous dishes that the city is known for. But because of COVID-19 scare, I didn’t step out to eat but yes I ordered some amazing biryani and Tundey kababs at the hotel.”

Nyra Banerjee further added, “My best memory of this trip will be that before boarding the flight, I went to old Lucknow to buy kilos of biryanis and kababs. And in the process, I spotted a shop with some beautiful chikan kurtas. I bought 12 of them in different colors. And in this entire process, I got late for the airport. I somehow managed to catch my flight, else I would have actually missed it. But the thrill and the adrenaline rush that I got buying the kurtas and running at the airport was unforgettable.”

Nyra also talked about her show “Excuse Me Maadam” (Hindi), which is going off-air. She said, “The show going off-air did not affect me much. What affected me was that I was blocked for 30 days and I could not take up any other TV show or other offers for different mediums that were coming my way at that time. Having said that, I really feel happy that I have tried my hands at the comedy genre. I got to learn so much from this show. I think I would like to do comedy again someday.”

Nyra Banerjee said that she deliberately stays away from negative roles. She concluded by saying, “I feel that this industry stereotypes you instantly, and that is why I don’t want to do negative roles so early in my career. I was offered the negative lead in the TV show Naagin, but I was not very sure of doing that, and so I said no to it. I want to do something more positive and empowering.”

Nyra added, “Plus, I don’t really like these dramatic saas-bahu types of shows. I want to try different genres on TV, like a thriller or a dance reality show.”

“Basically, ‘Barun Rai’ is an investigator who has clairvoyant powers. So whenever there is supernatural activity that the police cannot solve, ‘Barun Rai’ comes into the picture. He gets visions of how a murder would have been done, and through his clairvoyance and analysis, he detects the entire case and solves it.”

Nyra Banerjee continued saying, “So, ‘House on the Cliff’ is basically my story, me and my husband, played by Sid Makkar. We are a newly married couple and after shifting to a new house, we go through issues and ‘Barun Roy’ comes and helps us. The story is about that.”

She also elaborated on the challenges she faced while doing this particular character, which was set in the era of the 1930s on screen. She said, “I had to look at a particular era, and this was set in the 1930s. So, the costumes, the look, my hairstyle, makeup, and the accent — I tried my best to look suitable. Rest everything else was good.”

Talking about her co-actors and director Sam, Nyra said, “I had a very good team. Sam is into VFX and this was his debut film. He knew what kind of shots he actually wanted and he had amazing visions. Even then, the actors I worked with were senior actors like Priyanshu Chatterjee and Sid Makkar. We became really good friends and we would make sure that the scene brought a lot of energy. So, yeah, we had a lot of fun together and it was a good experience.”

She was also questioned about how she found the project which was very much different from others. To which she replied…. “I have never played someone from such an old era and half Bengali and obviously I have never been part of any horror movie. So, this was entirely a different experience”.
